DESCRIPTION
This interactive, engaging session focuses on the critical skill of effective listening in the context of how auditors gather information and interact with team members and clients. First, participants will reflect on the effectiveness of their own listening skills via a self-assessment. After building awareness of their listening-related strengths and weaknesses, participants will learn about three dimensions of effective listening: staying focused, capturing the message, and helping the speaker. Through small group activities, participants will practice each of the three dimensions, discussing how the techniques covered in class can be used on the job.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Define the three dimensions of effective listening
- List techniques to more effectively receive instruction from supervisors and obtain information from clients
- Create a plan to listen more effectively when communicating with team members and clients
